Turmeric: What is it?

You may have heard the recent buzz about “Golden Milk Lattes” or “Spiced Turmeric Milk”. So what is turmeric and what health properties does it have that everyone is raving about?

Turmeric, also known as “Nature’s Tylenol” has amazing medicinal benefits thanks to Circumin, the main active compound in turmeric. Circumin has proven to have strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Why is this important? Inflammation affects most people everyday. Whether it’s a natural, healthy inflammation response say when you are sick, or have sore muscles; or it’s chronic inflammation that leads to disorder and disease, everybody experiences it.

If you are looking to fight inflammatory disease, you may want to consume circumin in higher doses, such as a capsule. I would recommend consulting with a Naturopathic Doctor or medical professional on what circumin supplement is good for you. Because it is poorly absorbed in the bloodstream, the supplements found at your local supermarket may not cut it.

Consuming turmeric root or powder everyday can serve as a healthy, natural prevention for inflammation. Many leaders in the health field suggest making turmeric (over all other herbs) part of your daily diet. This can easily be done in sprinkling it over salads, curries, soups, lattes, or in this delicious Anti-Inflammatory Turmeric Smoothie!
