Did someone say smoothie?!
If you follow my Instagram, you know that me and this little cantaloupe-sized Baby Asher are LOVING smoothies and smoothie bowls lately! I wonder if it’s pregnancy hormones, the fact that I got a new Vitamix, the love of Earthyandy‘s pictures, or Loni Jane’s ebook that I got… hmm. I am guessing it is the perfect combination of all of those- and I am not complaining!
I love the fact that I can curb cravings (any kind- ice cream, fatty foods, french fries, etc) with real foods! For a while there, I was eating chicken nuggets and ice cream, and while there is nothing wrong with moderation, I knew that I needed to bring some type of nourishment to my body and my growing baby. Thats when it hit me, why am I okay with microwavable chicken nuggets and ice cream at night but I think putting a whole banana in my smoothie is “too much sugar?!” That just all of a sudden did not make sense.
I have since been experimenting with increased fruit consumption throughout the day and trying to pick whole foods over processed foods! I have to say that I feel great! I know that the point I am at in pregnancy has a lot to do with my energy levels, but I am really loving the lifestyle switch I have made as well. I have gotten into a local gym here called Burn, where I do yoga and body barre classes. I am feeling stronger from the classes, which has helped me with my treadmill interval workouts. And of course, I have gotten new appliances in the kitchen and have been enjoying smoothies, smoothie bowl art, and delicious combinations of veggies, sauces, and whole foods.
I have always eaten healthy and worked out, but because I am going through a transitional period of pregnancy, where my cravings and activity level are changing, I needed to change along with it!
What about you? What ways can you alter your schedule, diet, or workout routine to better fit the changes in your life right now?
Okay, I’m off of my i-love-smoothies-im-excited soapbox.
Back to the Nutty Pineapple Green Smoothie. This has been my favorite go-to green smoothie for the past couple of weeks. I really love the creaminess that the bananas add, with the tartness of pineapple, along with sweetness of cinnamon and of course peanut butter! It’s a combo to die for.
You can make a huge serving of this Nutty Pineapple Green Smoothie and sip on it throughout your morning, or a single serving to have as breakfast. You can even take it in a mason jar to work with you and enjoy it at lunch! That is the great thing about the way the Vitamix blends smoothies- they can sit out for hours (preferably in the fridge) and still be creamy and delicious.
A perfect smoothie to enjoy at any time of the day! Sweet, creamy bananas, tart pineapple, a subtle touch of cinnamon, and of course nutty peanut butter make this a winning combo!
- 2 frozen bananas *add more or less depending on desired consistency
- 2 handfuls frozen pineapple chunks
- 2 handfuls baby spinach
- 2 tbsp creamy peanut butter
- 3 almond milk cubes *Just freeze almond milk in ice trays. Use if you want a thicker smoothie and less almond milk
- 1 cup almond milk *More or less depending on desired consistency
Add all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend until smooth! Add more or less ingredients for desired taste and consistency.
*For the Vitamix, I have found that it blends easier if you add soft/liquid ingredients first and then top with frozen ingredients!
What are your favorite green smoothies?! I would love to hear!
