Before we get started, do you want to know a secret about this Tropical Green Smoothie Bowl?! These pictures were taken when it was 24F outside. Yes, this smoothie bowl will remind you of the tropics, and will probably take you back to Spring Break a couple weeks ago! However, if you live anywhere besides the tropics (or the desert) you are probably still experiencing cold weather and checking the forecast daily, nightly, and hourly just to see when Spring will ACTUALLY be here!
No? Am I the only one?
I guess I will have to settle with living the seasons through my food rather than the weather until the actual season gets here. I’m not impatient or anything.
Nevertheless, everything in my mind and in my kitchen right now has to do with the flavors and feelings of Spring. Light, crisp, & fruity are the key words here.
Who out there loves Spring?! I am excited to experience Spring this year because it will technically be my first time! I grew up in Texas, which, lets face it- hot, hot, & semi-hot/sometimes cold are the seasons in Texas! The only other place I have lived is Hawai’i, which basically has Summer Season & Rainy Season- which I really don’t mind either! However, Spring should be quite pleasant here in Raleigh, North Carolina! I am eager to see the flowers bloom, sun shine, and hike some of the awesome trails! Consequently, I have heard the pollen can get pretty bad. Is it weird that I don’t even know what to expect when I hear the word “pollen”? People tell me I am in for a big surprise! What about you? What are your favorite and least favorite things about Spring?!
Tropical Green Smoothie Bowl
Alright, time to return to our mouthwatering, Tropical Smoothie Bowl!
This recipe was inspired by 2 fruit staples in Hawai’i: pineapples and papaya. This past month I have been eating a lot of mangos (thank you Costco) and as a result, I have been craving more tropical fruit!
If you have never had a papaya before, I highly suggest trying it! They have a light, yet refreshing flavor. If you are not a fan of papaya, or cannot find it at your nearby store, mangos will for sure be a great replacement- or even just extra pineapple (Pina Colada Smoothie Bowl anyone?!). Furthermore, you can always take out the banana and add more of the other fruit- just make sure it is frozen so the bowl will be creamy.
A delicious light & fruity Spring smoothie bowl!
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup frozen pineapple
- 1/2 papaya
- 1/4 cup canned coconut milk
- 1 cup spinach
- 1/2-1 cup almond milk use less if you want it thicker
- 1 lime wedge
Blend together papaya and coconut milk until creamy.
Add in banana, pineapple, spinach, lime juice, and a bit of almond milk and blend until creamy. Add in more almond milk to get desired consistency.
Pour into bowl and add desired toppings. Enjoy tropical paradise in a bowl!

- Chia seeds
- Shredded coconut
- Other fruit
- Extra coconut milk
